Prof. Sirgy had been invited on behalf of ZPID director Prof. Michael Bosnjak, who had started the series of replicability talks in 2018 with the visit of Icek Ajzen. "We invite well established professors whose theories have withstood the test of time", says Bosnjak. "That means the theories have been replicated many times in different situations and have gained much prominence." Replicability is one of ZPID's research endeavors.
For his talk in Trier Sirgy decided to focus on a theory of subjective well-being. The title: Positive Balance: An integrative and replicable model of subjective well-being across hierarchical levels of analysis.
ZPID recorded Sirgy's talk on video. It is available via ZPID's media center. Slides are provided via the open access repository PsychArchives.
During his stay Sirgy had the opportunity to learn more about ZPID and its open access offers. "Very interesting is the publishing platform PsychOpen", says Sirgy. He is on the board of the International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies (ISQOLS), which is considering publishing a new journal. "Since it is not so easy to realize this request with a traditional publisher, maybe PsychOpen would be an alternative."
Sirgy is a management psychologist (Ph.D., U/Massachusetts, 1979) and endowed Professor of Marketing at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech).
He has published extensively in marketing, management, and psychology, specifically in relation to the psychology of quality of life and well-being. His seminal publications in this area include "The Psychology of Quality of Life: Hedonic Well-Being, Life Satisfaction, and Eudaimonia" (Springer, 2012).
