As a doctoral researcher at Fribourg University, you will be joining a team of scientists and clinicians in the psychiatry research department, which is associated with the Psychiatric Hospital of the Canton of Fribourg in Villars-sur-Glâne (neighborhood of the city of Fribourg).
The Chair of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy is building and expanding a multidisciplinary research program on the improvement of neuroplasticity and neurocognitive function (e.g., using the amino acid L-serine), particularly in the elderly. The team has important collaborations with ETH Zurich, the University Hospital Zurich and the Lake Lucerne Institute (LLUI) in the field of neuroimaging (fMRI, MRS, PET).
The successful applicant will have numerous opportunities to grow and expand his/her conceptual, experimental, neuropsychological, clinical, nutritional and neuroscientific horizons. She/he will have access to clinical facilities and a neuroimaging lab (EEG, MRI, PET etc.). Additionally, Fribourg University offers a PhD program in Life Sciences and Medicine which the applicant may join to further their studies.

Tätigkeitsgebiet
- Conducting an interventional study in healthy elderly individuals to test the long-term effects of L-serine supplementation on neuroplasticity and cognitive decline, using neuropsychological tests (e.g., memory) and neuroimaging (PET, MRI, EEG).
- Recruitment and assessment of study subjects
- Critically analyze and evaluate neuropsychological and neuroimaging data
- Perform administrative tasks as assigned
- Writing of reports, papers and grant applications
- Presentation of the findings at national/international congresses
Anforderungen
Required qualifications:
- Master’s degree in the fields of medicine, neuroscience and/or psychology
- Experience in neuropsychological research
- Experience in data analysis
- Strong German and English language skills are mandatory because study participants speak German
- Strong skills in scientific English
- Candidate must be able to work independently, and in a team setting as well
Ideal qualifications:
- Expertise in advanced neuropsychological test, EEG, MRI or PET data analysis would be a plus
- Publications would be a plus
- Experience with clinical interviews and rating of psychiatric symptoms would be a plus
