The Leibniz Institute for Psychology Information (ZPID) has joined the ORCID Germany Consortium. ORCID stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID. One of the various tasks of the identifier is to simplify the maintenance of researchers’ publication lists and serve as proof of their research productivity.
Since some scientists have similar or even identical names, one problem that arises is the distinct attribution of scientific works to a specific scientist. An ORCID is unique. If the researcher links the ID to his work, it can be clearly identified as his.
ORCID is a non-profit organization supported by institutional members. »ZPID participates, because we support the mission of creating unified links«, says ZPID director Michael Bosnjak. »ORCIDs are particularly suitable to explicitly allocate all data, study protocols, results and publications in a research process to specific researchers and linking them to extended information which we provide. ORCID brings us a determined step closer to the ideal form of open, transparent and replicable research.«
The Open Researcher and Contributor ID is already in use worldwide. In Germany, there is a DFG project (German Research Foundation) since 2016, in order to make it more popular within the scientific community. ORCID DE project partners are the Helmholtz Open Science Coordination Office at the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam – German Research Centre for Geosciences GFZ, the German National Library and Bielefeld University Library. The project was initiated by the German Initiative for Network Information (DINI).
