ZPID Director Appointed as Member of the ESS ERIC Methods Advisory Board

ZPID Director Prof. Michael Bosnjak has been appointed as member to the Methods Advisory Board (2020-2023) of the European Social Survey ERIC.

The European Social Survey (ESS) is a pan-European research infrastructure providing freely accessible data for academics, policymakers, civil society and the wider public. It was awarded European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) status in 2013.

The work of the ESS ERIC includes organising a survey every two years measuring social attitudes and behaviour; utilising and developing the highest standards in cross-national research; providing direct and virtual training programmes; and supporting free access to its growing data and documentation archive.

The ESS Methods Advisory Board advises the General Assembly, the Director and the Core Scientific Team on technical and methodological aspects of the survey. It comprises six members, appointed by the General Assembly following nominations from its members. Bosnjak has more than 20 years of experience in survey methodology, was in charge of setting up the GESIS Panel, a large-scale probabilistic panel infrastructure at ZPID's cooperation partner GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, and has published extensively in top-tier journals about issues of implementing and operating surveys.

His research has been published in prestigious outlets such as - among others -  Public Opinion Quarterly, Social Science Computer Review, Journal of Survey Statistics and Methodology, and Survey Research Methods. Hence, his expertise is sought after on the advisory board.

"I am honored about this prestigious advisory board members appointment and am very happy to serve the European Social Survey data user community, which is relying on high-quality survey data", says Bosnjak. "This appointment also underlines the trust of the ESS General Assembly into the expertise located at ZPID - Leibniz Institute for Psychology Information and the quality of its newly established data collection infrastructure."
