We as the Leibniz Institute of Psychology (ZPID) fully support the statement of the Leibniz Association on the occasion of the current and peaceful protests for democratic coexistence. Many of our staff were also part of the demonstration of 10,000 people at the Porta Nigra in Trier on Sunday, January 28, 2024.
Of course, we share the declaration of the Leibniz Association for Democracy and Human Dignity:
People all over Germany have made it clear in recent days that democracy, human dignity and rule of law are unshakeable values in our society. Civil society is showing that our democracy is alive and able to defend itself. The Leibniz Association stands with the protesters and fully supports the demonstration.
In the Leibniz Association, we work together on issues that are of relevance to society, the economy and the environment, in order to find answers to the pressing problems of our time. More than 20,000 people from around 130 countries, with diverse migration stories, are employed at the 96 Leibniz institutes, where they work on a broad spectrum of research topics. This is only possible with an outward-looking attitude and a culture that welcomes everyone because, like German society as a whole, we derive our strength as a research community from plurality and diversity.
We will not accept any attack on the core of our constitution and the foundations of our coexistence. With this statement and through our daily interactions with one another we firmly oppose discrimination, exclusion and xenophobia in our country.
