The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences is one of the largest research and teaching institutions in Europe addressing the inclusion of people with disabilities, impairments and social disadvantages. It has established three research clusters: “Education, Schooling, Inclusion” – “Work, Inclusion, Health” – “Technology, Inclusion, Participation”. As a result of numerous university and non-university collaborations, the Department is embedded in an attractive research environment.

Profile of the professorship
You represent the field of Participation of Persons with Social, Emotional and Behavioral Difficulties in research and further develop this with international visibility. In doing so, you participate in the research cluster “Education, Schooling, Inclusion” of the department and in research networks and cooperations within and outside TU Dortmund University. You are committed to the acquisition of third party funding, promoting early career researchers and you participate appropriately in the teaching activities of the department.

The appointment is initially for a period of three years as a temporary civil servant. In the course of the third year, this status will be reviewed and may be extended for a further three years depending on performance. At the end of this six-year assistant professorship at the latest, the tenure track will lead to continued employment as a tenured W3 university professor, provided that the necessary aptitude, competence and academic performance have been demonstrated and that the legal requirements pertaining to Section 38 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, HG NRW) are met. The teaching load of the assistant professorship is four hours per week in each of the first three years. In the case of a positive review, it will increase to five hours per week in each of the last three years.

Your qualifications
You have obtained a doctorate with above-average success and already demonstrate initial experience in the dissemination of your research in the field of the professorship, e.g. in one the following areas, through international publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals: Assessment, prevention and intervention of persons with social, emotional and behavioral difficulties as well as development of teaching practices or inclusion with an emphasis on students with social, emotional and behavioral difficulties. Experience in obtaining competitively awarded third-party funding and participation in research projects are desirable, as is experience of practical work with children and young people with social, emotional and behavioral difficulties. Additionally, you have the potential for teaching excellence. Social and leadership skills and the willingness to participate in academic self-administration complete your profile. Moreover, the recruitment requirements in Section 36 and 37 HG NRW apply.
