Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

Specific Duties

The position is part of the Department of Differential Psychology and Psychological Assessment (PI: Prof. Dr. Jan Wacker). The work includes academic services in the project “Development and validation of a formal theory of co-occurring emotions” (PI: Dr. Jens Lange), which is funded by the German Research Foundation. Goals of the project are:

(a) to develop an integrative theory of co-occurring emotions with the help of agent-based modeling, while the theory is based on principles of psychological networks

(b) to calibrate the formal model and test the theory with both simulations as well as empirical studies (experiments, experience sampling) incl. the measurement of self reports, behavior, and physiological changes

(c) to evaluate the theory with the approach of inference to the best explanation

The tasks of the prospective job holder include:

  • the implementation of the project in collaboration with the principal investigator
  • the presentation of the results of the project on national and international conferences
  • the publication of the results of the project

The job holder is also encouraged to write a dissertation, whose topic can be related to the project. Moreover, there is the possibility to supervise theses. If desired, participation in teaching in the areas of Differential Psychology and/or Psychological Assessment can be organized as part of teaching contracts.


A university degree in a relevant field.

A very good university degree (Master/Diploma) in psychology or a related field is required. Very good oral and written proficiency in English is necessary. German proficiency is not necessary. Research experience and especially experience in programming (e.g., in R, NetLogo) are beneficial. Moreover, knowledge about emotion research, interest in formal modeling, and experience with advanced (multivariate) statistical methods are desirable. Applicants should furthermore be characterized by high dedication, willingness to learn, and autonomy.
