The position is available from May 01, 2022. The salary is determined by the collective bar- gaining agreement for public employees in Germany (TV-L 13). The position is for 40 hours per week (100% of a full-time contract) and funded by the Volkswagen Foundation, project “Text mining in behavioral economics with a focus on the solution of social dilemma situations.” This is a temporary position limited to a term of 4 years in accordance with Section 2 subsection 1 of the Fixed-Term Employment Contracts in Science and Research Act (WissZeitVG).

Responsibilities:

research in the field of behavioral economics, e.g.:

  • conduction of economic experiments in the lab, online, and/or in the field
  • web scraping text and other data
  • data analysis using machine learning methods

Qualifications:

  • a PhD in economics, psychology, computer science, or a neighboring discipline
  • programming skills (preferably Python)
  • a high level of self-initiative as well as a very reliable and conscientious way of working

The position offers an attractive research environment (a fully equipped experimental econom- ics lab, facilities for online experiments, and generous research funding from the Volkswagen Foundation) and a very cooperative team atmosphere. The postdoc will be part of a team that jointly explores the opportunities of machine learning in behavioral economics, focusing on the question how communication can help solving social dilemmas. The University of Potsdam is situated at the gates of Berlin, with close ties to the universities, research institutions and research networks in the Berlin area.
