PhD position in the field of social psychology

The PhD (m/f/d) will be a member of the Social Psychology department (chair: Prof. Wilhelm Hofmann). We study a broad array of topics in social psychology, including self-regulation and self-control, morality, pro-environmental behavior, health behavior decision-making, and behavioral economics. From a methodological perspective, we strive to combine the rigor of experimental research paradigms with the external validity and richness of behavioral data from everyday life (as measured, for instance, with ecological momentary assessment). The PhD is expected to develop an innovative dissertation research program under the supervision and mentoring of Prof. Hofmann. The teaching commitment of the position is 3 courses per year (e.g., research-oriented seminars), at the bachelor or master level. The ability to speak German is helpful but not necessary. The salary is based on the German TVL-12/13 scale (29,87 h/w). The contract is limited to 3 years with a preferred starting date of March or April 2020.

The load of teaching will be calculated according to §3 of Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung (state of North Rhine-Westphalia).

Anforderungsprofil

The ideal PhD candidate (m/f/d) will have:

  • Research Master or Master in Psychology, with a focus on social psychology or related disciplines
  • The capacity to participate in an international research environment
  • Excellent knowledge of research methodology and statistics, as well as statistical software (e.g., R)
  • Strong commitment to principles of open science
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate and communicate in academia
  • Excellent organizational skills, efficient working style
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
