ETH Zurich is one of the world's leading universities specialising in science and technology. It is renowned for its excellent education, its cutting-edge fundamental research and its efforts to put new knowledge and innovations directly into practice. The Chair of Technology and Innovation Management (TIMGroup) provides a very international and vibrant research environment where each member aims for the highest academic standards. We aim at being disciplined, but not discipline-bound. Our research is interdisciplinary: it combines management science, psychology and cognitive neurosciences, and relies on qualitative and quantitative methods.
Research Associate (30-100%)
We are looking for a research associate to collaborate on a long-term oriented research project at the intersection of cognitive science, management, and sustainability.
In this project, we will combine methods from management (e.g., interviews, text analysis), psychology (e.g., behavioural experiments) and neuroscience (e.g., eye tracking) to answer questions like: "How do managers define problems considering multiple goals?" and "Which cognitive mechanisms do managers use when they engage in sustainable problem solving?".
The tasks will include Interdisciplinary literature analyses, developing psychological tasks, collecting data for lab and field experiments, performing quantitative and qualitative data analyses. The work can be considered a good exploration into the different tasks involved in pursuing a PhD or an academic career. The research associate will work with different people within the TIMGroup, and mostly with Dr. Daniella Laureiro-Martínez and Dr. Zorica Zagorac-Uremović.
This project is ambitious, broad and long-term oriented. The research associate must like to work with complex problems and under uncertainty.
Obligatory qualifications are a proactive, self-directed and hard-working style, a Master's degree in cognitive science or related fields (e.g. behavioural psychology, behavioural economics) and a high interest in investigating managerial cognition, problem solving, social and environmental sustainability. We expect very good English skills (eq.C1 or higher).
In addition, proficient programming and statistical skills (e.g. Python, R, Matlab, STATA), research experience with different types of behavioural or cognitive experiments, and the ability to develop and conduct original research designs will be desirable.
We look forward to receiving your online application including the following documents: motivation letter, CV, University diplomas including transcripts, written work (e.g. theses, research papers), and contact details of referees. Please note that we exclusively accept applications submitted through our online application portal. Applications via email or postal services will not be considered.
