The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Potsdam invites applications for the following position, to be filled by October 1, 2020:
W3 Professorship for Business Informatics with a specialization in Social Media and Society
The successful candidate will have a record of excellent research performance in the field of social media in relation to digital technologies and well-being, data science and business analytics, data protection and user behavior and user perception, the sharing economy (especially with a focus on the role of trust) and digital integration. These accomplishments must be demonstrated by a post-doctoral qualification (Habilitation) or equivalent scholarly achievements in the subject of information technology, business informatics or a similar field, as well as publications in relevant journals and active participation in professional conferences.
The holder of this position will perform interdisciplinary research on the effects of digital technologies, especially social media, on humans and society. The successful candidate will therefore have a national and international network of similarly oriented cooperation partners, provide evidence of wide-ranging and diverse experience in the implementation of interdisciplinary research projects, and be integrated in existing cooperative and externally funded projects.
This position will teach courses in the bachelor's degree program in business informatics and the master's degree programs in business informatics and digital transformation, as well as data science. We therefore expect teaching experience in the fields of social media research, online and social media marketing, social media strategy, and data science & business analytics. We also invite applications from candidates with experience in providing support for young researchers.
The professorship should, upon reception of a positive evaluation and the possible approval of a second expansion phase, be connected to the position of a director at the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society (the German Internet Institute), which is funded by Germany's Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The successful candidate will perform research on interactions between digitalization and society in this context and in cooperation with other universities and research institutions in Berlin and Brandenburg. Applicants should therefore have appropriate leadership experience and have a distinguished track record illustrating conceptual strength. We expect the holder of this position to cooperate in research and teaching with the German Internet Institute and to take on representative tasks and advising functions. Furthermore, the professor will also contribute to the expansion of the subject of digitalization in politics, economics and society at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. The teaching load will be six hours per week in order to provide capacity for management duties at the Internet Institute; afterwards the teaching load shall be eight hours per week.
The following application requirements for professors must be documented in accordance with Section 41 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (BbgHG): a completed university degree, pedagogical aptitude, and a special ability for scientific work, as are typically documented by a dissertation project; comprehensive competences in science management and additional scholarly achievements as evidenced by a Habilitation (post-doctoral dissertation), a junior professorship or work as a research associate at an institution of higher education or an extramural research institution, or scholarly activity in the private sector, or in a similar social field, whether in Germany or abroad. The appointment procedure is conducted in accordance with Section 40 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act.
