Universität Hamburg invites applications for a

Research Associate (Postdoc)

in accordance with Section 28 subsection 2 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG). The position commences on March 1, 2019 or later.

It is remunerated at the salary level TV-L 13. Providing that a position is available and that requirements have been fulfilled, the associate may apply for temporary civil servant status in accordance with Section 28 subsection 2 HmbHG.

The position is full-time and comprises 39 hours per week (40 for civil servants).

The fixed-term nature of this contract is based upon Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The initial fixed term is three years. The contract provides for a maximum extension of up to three years depending on the associate's achievements during the first stage.

Responsibilities:

Duties include teaching and research in the respective department or institute. Research associates can also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications as well as acquire teaching experience. These duties are intended to promote academic achievement. Therefore, at least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the associate's own academic work.

Specific Duties:

The postdoc will develop and coordinate behavioral and neuroscience research on neuroplasticity as a consequence of sensory impairments in humans (brainimaging and/or neurophysiological experiments) both in Hamburg and in partner institutes outside of Germany. The postdoc will be responsible for analyzing and publishing results of their projects. The postdoc will be responsible for participant recruitment in cooperation with multiple institutes. She/he will contribute to grant application and writing reports. Other duties include supervising PhD, Master, BSc and internship students. Classroom teaching duties comprise 5 SWS.

Requirements:

A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate.

The Biological Psychology and Neuropsychology section of the University of Hamburg seeks for a postdocoral researcher with a background in cognitive neuroscience with a focus on neuroplasticity related to sensory impairments. Very good knowledge in either brainimaging or neurophysiological methods as well as extensive experience in behavioral experimental testing are required. The successful candidate is expected to have documented success in research with first-author publications in the relevant field. High proficiency in German and English is mandatory. International experience in research is of advantage. The ideal candidate has completed his/her doctoral degree within the past two years or at least has submitted the dissertation.
