Laboratory Manager/Lab Engineer (m/f/div) Position at Jan Beucke’s Lab (Medical Psychology, Faculty of Human Medicine)

The MSH Medical School Hamburg is a private university approved by the State of Germany, based in the modern HafenCity of Hamburg.

At MSH, a part-time (that is, 50%; 20h/week) position as Laboratory Manager/Lab Engineer/Data Engineer (m/f/div) is available in a recently installed Lab headed by Jan Beucke, PhD. The position is permanent (after a six-month probation period).

Projects of the lab

  • Study of monozygotic twin pairs discordant for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCDTWIN), in close cooperation with Karolinska Institutet (Stockholm, Sweden)
  • Study using computational modeling of behavioral parameters to predict electrophysiological (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) responses to investigate uncertainty in OCD Job description and tasks
  • Development of pipelines for MRI-based, neurogenetic analyses in close collaboration with the Sepulcre Lab (Jorge Sepulcre, Md PhD; Ibai Diez, PhD; Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University)
  • Implementation of a database (using Redcap) that is already in use at Karolinska Institutet for OCDTWIN data collection in Germany
  • Computational modeling of decision making and learning processes for the project ‘uncertainty in OCD’ which uses EEG und fMRI (cooperation with the Clinical Neurosciences Lab of Anja Riesel, PhD; Hamburg University), participation in grant applications for the project
  • Technical support for the two projects, e.g. organization and analysis of research data

Your profile

  • required: programming skills (Matlab, R, Python for data engineering/analysis)
  • required: sincere interest in of behavioral responses in the field of cognitive neuroscience (supervision available via collaboration with UKE Hamburg)
  • desired: experience with data engineering/database administration (eg SQL)
  • desired: Expertise or experience in programming of EEG fMRI data analysis pipelines
  • Desired Backgrounds:
    • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Biomedical Engineering (with a focus on life sciences)
    • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Bioinformatics (with a focus on life sciences)
    • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Psychology or Cognitive/translational/behavioral neuroscience (with a focus on or additional qualification in programming/data engineering)
